The webinar organized by We Effect and vi Agroforestry on ”Our cooperative identity – where is it taking us in the future?” took place on third of February bringing staff members from headquarters and regions together.

The ILO COOP Unit Manager Ms Esim was invited to the webinar along with a number of other resource people including Gordon Hahn (Coompanion Sweden), Marc Noel (ICA), Camilla Lundberg Ney (Cooperatives Sweden) and Lotta Folkesson (We Effect and COPA Women’s committee).

The We Effect and vi Agroforestry webinar was moderated by Pia Stavås Meier and Hans Lind with the participation of staff from Sweden as well as Eastern Europe, Eastern Africa, Southern Africa, Latin America and Asia regional offices.

The speakers were asked questions including if cooperatives were a part of the solution for today’s problems and if and how cooperative solutions can help the world to mitigate the consequences of COVID19 pandemic.

Ms Esim was also asked a question on the elements that constitute an enabling environment for cooperatives. She noted that ILO’s Promotion of Cooperatives Recommendation, 2002 (No. 193) provides a good framework for establishing an enabling environment for cooperatives.

She also talked about the need to think about transition to worker ownership through cooperatives, cooperative solutions to digital labour and cooperatives providing health services as areas to explore in the post-COVID19 context and in relation to preparedness for future crises.
