SECOND ITEM ON THE AGENDA

Effect to be given to the recommendations of sectoral meetings

(b) Meeting of Experts on Safety and Health in Forest Work

(Geneva, 23-30 September 1997)

1. The Meeting of Experts on Safety and Health in Forest Work was held in Geneva from 23 to 30 September 1997, chaired by Mr. C. Perry (Government, Canada). Thirty experts were invited to take part in the Meeting: ten were appointed following consultations with governments, ten after consultations with the Employers' group, and ten after consultations with the Workers' group of the Governing Body. The Meeting was attended by all 30 experts and by several observers from intergovernmental and non-governmental international organizations.

2. The experts examined and unanimously approved the Code of Practice on Safety and Health in Forest Work, as amended.(1) 

3. The report of the Meeting and the code of practice as adopted by the Meeting are appended.(2) 

4. The Committee on Sectoral and Technical Meetings and Related Issues may wish to recommend that the Governing Body take note of the report of the Meeting of Experts and authorize the Director-General to publish the Code of Practice on Safety and Health in Forest Work.
