Third Supplementary Report:
Report of the Committee of Experts on the
Application of Conventions and Recommendations
(Geneva, 27 November-12 December 1997)

1. The Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations held its 68th Session in Geneva from 27 November to 12 December 1997. It adopted a report which, in accordance with the usual practice, has been printed as a Conference document(1)  and is submitted to the Governing Body at its present session. As in previous years, the report has been published in two volumes for the sake of convenience.

2. Under its terms of reference the Committee was called upon to examine:

(a) reports from governments on the application of Conventions that they have ratified (articles 22 and 35 of the Constitution);

(b) information supplied by governments on the submission of certain Conventions and Recommendations to the competent authorities (article 19 of the Constitution);

(c) reports from governments on one Convention and one Recommendation chosen by the Governing Body (article 19 of the Constitution).

3. The Governing Body's attention is also drawn to the Committee's General Survey, which this year deals with the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (Disabled Persons) Convention (No. 159) and Recommendation (No. 168), 1983. This General Survey will be found in Volume B of the Committee's report. It is based on reports supplied under articles 19 and 22 of the ILO Constitution.

4. The Governing Body is invited to take note of the report of the Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations.
