TENTH ITEM ON THE AGENDA

Other financial and general questions

Financial arrangements for a meeting of the
Officers of the Committee on Technical Cooperation
to discuss monitoring modalities

1. At its present session (November 1999) the Governing Body will have before it a proposal by its Committee on Technical Cooperation(1)  to convene a two- day meeting of the Officers of that Committee early in the year 2000 in Geneva. The purpose of the meeting is to review the various proposals on different modalities for monitoring technical cooperation activities, and to prepare its findings for presentation to the Committee on Technical Cooperation at the 277th Session of the Governing Body (March 2000).

2. The Programme and Budget for 2000-01 does not include provision for such a meeting, and should the Governing Body decide to convene it, financial arrangements will have to be made.

3. On the basis of the information provided, it is estimated that the cost of such a meeting would be US$6,600. These costs would in the first instance be financed by savings under Part I of the budget. Should this not prove possible, the Director-General could propose alternative methods of financing at a later stage in the biennium.

4. The Committee may wish to recommend that, should the Governing Body decide to convene a meeting of the Officers of the Committee on Technical Cooperation, such costs, estimated at a maximum of $6,600, should be financed in the first instance from savings in Part I of the budget on the understanding that, should this subsequently prove impossible, the Director-General would propose alternative methods of financing at a later stage in the biennium.

Geneva, 15 November 1999.
